VARSITY BASKETBALL
Crown the champs! The 36th Fenn School Basketball Tournament was held on Feb.6, with the host team capturing the championship for the second straight year. Fenn tipped off against Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols in the opening round. The teams kept it close early on and only were separated by a 28‐25 margin at the half. The boys in blue and gold pulled away in the second half and defeated BB&N, 54‐38. Owen Johnson had a game high 17 points, while Lucas Lisman collected 13 and Max Byron had 12.
The win over BB&N pushed Fenn into the tournament title game against Fay School, a team Fenn already had disposed of twice earlier this season. Fenn jumped out to an early lead and held a commanding 27‐11 advantage at the half. Fenn put it in cruise control after that and beat Fay in a commanding way, 62‐33. Ten different players scored for Fenn, with Lucas Lisman registering a game high 16 points. Looking to ride the wave of momentum from winning the championship, Fenn hosted Fessenden on Feb. 10. Instead of riding the wave though, Fenn was running on empty in this one and the team found itself down 29‐10 at the half. Things weren’t looking much better in the second half and Fenn eventually fell 54‐24 to Fessenden. Max Byron was Fenn’s leading scorer with seven points. Coach Peter Bradley’s team owns a solid 7‐3 record outside of tournament play this season. The boys look to rebound on Feb. 11 when they host St. John’s Prep.
JV BASKETBALL
The JV team snuck by Carroll School 32‐30 in a nail‐biter on Feb. 4 in Lincoln. With Fenn down by one point with 24 seconds remaining on the clock, Teddy Lisa drove to the basket from the baseline and scored. Fenn got the ball back, was fouled, and then made one free throw as the clock ran out. Nathan McCarthy notched two 3‐pointers to continue his streak of scoring at least two 3‐pointers in each game this season. The win pushes JV’s record to 5‐2 this season. Fenn won both games against Carroll this season. Coming up next for Fenn JV is a game versus Dexter on Feb. 12.
THIRDS BASKETBALL
Fenn Gold hosted Rivers School on Feb. 10, trying to keep its undefeated streak intact. In a total team game, Fenn spread out the scoring over a number of players, with Gray Hussey the high man with nine points. Jackson Morgan, Sam Pring, Jefferson Veillard, and Nick Bettenhauser each had four points. Fenn sailed by Rivers by a 31‐8 score. The Gold team takes it 7‐0‐1 record to Pike School for a game on Feb. 17.
The Blue team traveled to Fay on Feb. 10 and despite a great second half comeback, Fenn fell to Fay in defeat. The Blue team is slated to play at Fessenden on Feb. 17.
HOCKEY
The varsity hockey team hosted Fay School on Feb. 10, the second meeting between the two teams this season outside of tournament play. Fenn had dropped the first game 3‐1 on Jan. 22, but Coach Derek Boonisar’s boys were set on redemption this time around. Fenn beat Fay 5‐2 for its second straight victory, boosting its record to 5‐5 outside of tourney action. Up next on the schedule for Fenn varsity is a game at Roxbury Latin on Feb. 17. The JV hockey team, with a 1‐2 record, hosts Carroll School on Feb. 11.
WRESTLING
The varsity wrestling team has a meet at Belmont Hill scheduled for Feb. 12, while the JV team hosts Fessenden on Feb.11.
