FENN SPORTS REPORT FEBRUARY 9, 2017
VARSITY BASKETBALL
For the third straight year, Fenn’s varsity basketball team claimed the championship in the Fenn School Basketball Tournament. Hosting the four-team event on February 4, Fenn tipped off against Lexington Christian Academy in the opening round. The boys in blue-and-gold opened up a 30-17 halftime advantage and rolled on to a 51-25 victory. Ben Carbeau led all scorers with 16 points. The win over LCA vaulted Fenn into the title game against Fay School. Fenn and Fay had split regular season meetings earlier this year, and this one was a seesaw battle with several lead changes. Fenn finally opened up some breathing room, grabbing a five point lead at the half, and never trailed again the rest of the way. Stuart McCallum earned a game high 16 points, while Carbeau contributed 15. Congratulations to Coach Peter Bradley’s team!
On February 8, Fenn was defeated at Fessenden, 65-25. Fenn’s varsity basketball team is 8-3 this season.

THIRDS BASKETBALL
Illness and injury played havoc with the Thirds Blue team this week. Fenn hosted Fessenden on February 3, but with a compromised roster, dropped a 29-11 decision. Coach Jeff Trotsky reports that, despite the loss, Sam Remondi and Brad Kelly were standouts.

VARSITY HOCKEY
Coach Derek Boonisar’s team is riding a two-game win streak. On February 3, Ben LaPlante started the scoring in the first period as Fenn hosted Winchester Middle School. In the second, Nico Martinez notched a pair of goals, the first of which was a beautiful goal, as he roofed it from in tight. Ian Moore also scored in the second stanza, while Andy Barton and Eoin Morrissey (EN) rounded out the Fenn score sheet. Fenn skated to a 6-3 win over Winchester Middle School.
“We didn't really find our skating legs until the second period, but once we did they had a hard time containing us,” said Boonisar. “We played with quickness and played hard below the face-off dots at both ends of the ice. Putting up six goals and having five different scorers gave us some confidence.”
On February 8, Fenn trekked to Fay School in Southborough. This one was a defensive struggle. The only goal of the game was scored with 16 seconds remaining on the clock off a goalmouth scramble. Peter Nelson took the first stab at it, but couldn’t finish. Alex Brown then took a jab, but it was Alex Barton who pounced on the loose rebound and stuffed it home for the game winner. Ben Ferrell, Nico Bowden, and Nate Crozier each grabbed a period of action to lighten the goaltending load, as Fenn claimed the 1-0 road shutout.
“Wins on the road aren't easy to come by in hockey,” said Boonisar. “Players are creatures of habit and playing in an unfamiliar rink after a long bus ride presents its challenges. But we found a way.”
Fenn’s varsity hockey team has registered a 5-2-1 record this season.
